The Ottawa Senators and their development arm, Capital Sports Development Inc., have taken a monumental step: in August 2025, they finalized the purchase of approximately 11 acres at LeBreton Flats from the NCC, topping $30 million.

Vision for LeBreton Flats

LeBreton Flats is undergoing a comprehensive decades-long transformation into a mixed-use, transit-oriented neighborhood. Spearheaded by the National Capital Commission (NCC), the redevelopment will blend residential buildings, commercial zones, public spaces, and cultural landmarks like the new Ādisōke library and civic centre.

LeBreton Flats: An Ideal Location

LeBreton Flats has emerged as the the new home for the Senators' due to its prime location and various advantages. Situated close to downtown Ottawa, the area offers convenient accessibility for fans, with easy transportation options and sufficient parking facilities. The proximity to two light rail transit (LRT) stations ensures seamless connectivity for supporters attending games. Furthermore, LeBreton Flats boasts a "shovel ready" status, meaning the land is primed for development, streamlining the process for constructing a new arena.

Why It Matters To Ottawa

  • Urban Revitalization: The project will fill in an underutilized chunk of land, bringing vibrancy, mixed-use density, and architectural innovation to Ottawa’s core.

  • Cultural Unity: Anchored by heritage and sustainably designed buildings, the project aims to honor the area’s past while creating inclusive community assets.

  • Sports & Spectacle: A downtown arena transforms accessibility for fans—especially with LRT access—and enhances Ottawa’s bid as a premier event city.

  • Economic Magnet: With housing (including affordable units), commercial spaces, and public venues, the district can spark new investment and foot traffic.

Chinatown

As LeBreton Flats develops Chinatown benefits by being a mature neighbourhood with already established density, quality transit, and already excellent walk-ability. It retains charm but is well-positioned for economic uplift, more retail demand, and increased attention from both locals and tourists. Chinatown is very cultural, with a strong food scene, a vibrant small business environment - Asian restaurants (dim sum, pho, etc), markets, boutiques, art & cultural festivals.

As the Ottawa Senators move closer to their relocation to LeBreton Flats, the excitement and anticipation among fans and the Ottawa community continue to build. An opportunity to own a nearby investment property has come to light. 72 Upper Lorne Place is now for sale - a gorgeous triplex.
